Dukkah, is an Egyptian condiment which is extremely versatile. There are numerous recipes available but the primary ingredient in most cases is Hazelnuts combined with other spices including coriander, cumin and dried mint. This combination of savoury and sweet ingredients brings an element of earthiness so do consider using it in your next Middle Eastern inspired dish.
This Eid instead of making desserts I made a large batch of my Dukkah Spice Mix for friends and family. If you are entertaining over the long Eid weekend consider making or conveniently ordering these by getting in touch with me so I can send you a batch of this Dukkah Spice Mix that would be an absolute winner at any social gathering.
You could use it in dips, spreads, soups, herb crust your main course (fish, chicken, tofu and eggs). Additionally, top your labneh (strained yogurt) with dukkah or serve it on your cheese platter along with a soft cheese and crackers to impress guests.
A fair bit of warning, Dukkah is easy to make provided you can buy all your spices and nuts roasted. It does take time to roast each ingredient individually at home and I personally don’t mind the mild smell of a roastery that’s filled my home. I have a manual nut crusher that breaks down the nuts and spices to the absolute perfect size but it can be hard to use for a large batch so go with the food processor though some of the fragrance and taste is lost when pulsed very rapidly.
Welcome back to Dubai to all those returning from their holidays and Eid Mubarak!!!
